Hobe Sound Foreclosures

Real Estate Foreclosures for Sale in Hobe Sound FL
Hobe Sound, an unincorporated community situated in Florida’s eastern Martin County, has a fascinating and unconventional history. Its name comes from the Jobe Indians. Spanish settlers pronounced the name “Hobay,” which led to the spelling “Hobe.”

In the 1920s, the town began what looked like an ascent to stardom. The Olympia Improvement Corporation decided that the town should be built and remodeled in a Greek style so films could be shot there. Streets were given the names of Greek gods, and the town was renamed “Picture City.” However, a hurricane tore through in 1928, and the project was abandoned and the previous name was restored.

There is still much history to be found at Hobe Sound, making it an excellent place to live if you’re a history buff or just like a good story. It once held an ice plant and a train station. The train station is a refurbished office, and a former Texaco station is a car-rental place.
