The idyllic name of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea conjures up some lovely images. Thankfully, those images are accurate. This little town is located in an area of Broward County known as the “Gold Coast.” With a year-round population of 6,056 and a seasonal population of over 10,000, this 1.5-square-mile town is full of interesting characters and things to do.
If you’ve wanted to experience island life, you have a chance with Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. The town is on a barrier island. It has multiple transportation opportunities, however, making it ideal for a getaway or a permanent place of residence. Shuttles and bus services are available, and the town is bordered by the Florida Intracoastal Waterway, a great transport venue for recreational boaters, and by the Atlantic Ocean. The town’s proximity to airports makes it easy to travel longer distances as well.
The scenery and recreation here are unsurpassed. Coral reefs are just 100 feet from shore, and locals and visitors can scuba dive to see them. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea has a fishing pier, parks, and sport courts, as well as a community center.
Job opportunities abound primarily in retail, tourism, real estate, and the like. Finance is also a large industry in the town. Its proximity to Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach makes it a good choice for one working in either of these major cities as well.
While the town has no schools within its borders, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is served by Broward County Public Schools. Similarly, hospitals are close by, but none are within the town borders.
