In a state and a region laden with history, Dania Beach manages to stand out. Dania Beach was the first city to be established in Broward County. It was originally called Modello, but the name was changed by the first settlers. Most of them were Danes. The town grew steadily but was encumbered in the 1920s by hurricanes, fires, and embezzlement of bank funds.
Upon its recovery, Dania was hailed as the “Tomato Capital of the World,” but eventually, saltwater in the fields ended the tomato boom.

The FAU SeaTeach scientific research center is located in the town as well.
There also is a good deal of creativity in Dania Beach. Like many quiet oceanfront towns, Dania Beach is home to many artists, writers, and musicians. The recently developed Dania Beach Arts Council helps to nurture the arts in the community and to help them develop economically, increasing the impact of art.
Dania Beach is close to an airport and a seaport, and residents are conveniently close to nightlife, sports, and more. Its proximity makes it a great choice for those who work in Fort Lauderdale or Miami. However, Dania Beach has its own culture. Its fishing pier is a favorite of locals, and the town’s authentic restaurants, the Dania Beach Bar & Grill and Quarterdeck Restaurant, offer you an escape from the day-to-day. Dania Beach’s public marina makes it easy to keep a boat and travel as you choose.
